How to add text to an image

  2. Type your text and choose the font, size and colour.
  3. Position the text on the image and check the preview.
  4. Apply and download the image with your text.

Making text readable on busy photos

Readability depends on contrast. Light text works on dark areas of a photo and dark text on light areas. On busy backgrounds, use a bold font at a generous size, place the text over a calm region such as sky or a wall, or blur or darken the photo first with Blur Image or Adjust Image. Keep important words away from the very edges, where some apps crop images in previews.

Add text to an image for memes, event posters, product labels or simple social media graphics.

Fonts and languages

Text is drawn using fonts available in your browser and operating system, and it supports any script your device can display, including Hindi and other Indian languages. Once you download the image, the text is part of the pixels, so it looks exactly the same on every device, even ones without that font.

Good to know

Because the text becomes part of the image, it can't be edited later; keep your original photo so you can start again if you want to change the wording. To protect photos with a copyright line or logo instead, use Watermark Image. Your image never leaves your device.

For memes and social posts, a few short words read best on small phone screens.
