Why photos sometimes appear sideways
Phones and cameras often store a photo in the orientation of the sensor and add a small orientation tag that tells viewers to turn it. Some programs, websites and printers ignore that tag, so the photo shows up sideways. This tool rotates the actual pixels, so the image looks right in every app, regardless of tags. This often happens with photos taken while holding the phone sideways or upside down.
Quality when rotating
PNG images are rotated without any loss. A JPEG has to be re-encoded after rotation in the browser, which is done at high quality so the difference is not visible. Metadata such as the orientation tag is not copied, so there is no risk of the photo being rotated twice by a viewer.
Rotating by 90° or 270° swaps the width and height, so a 4000 × 3000 landscape photo becomes 3000 × 4000 portrait. Keep this in mind if a website expects a particular orientation or exact dimensions.

To mirror an image instead of turning it, use Flip Image. Rotating pages in a PDF document is a different job: use Rotate PDF, which turns pages without converting them to images.
Frequently asked questions
Why does my photo look upright on my phone but sideways elsewhere?
The phone reads the orientation tag while the other app ignores it. Rotating the pixels fixes it everywhere.
Does rotating reduce quality?
PNGs are rotated losslessly. JPGs are re-saved at high quality, which is visually lossless.
Is transparency preserved?
Yes, for PNG and WebP images.
Can I rotate a PDF page here?
No. Use Rotate PDF for documents.
Is my image uploaded?
No. Rotation happens in your browser.
