How to convert HEIC to JPG
- Click Select files and choose your .heic or .heif photos, or drag them onto the page.
- Set the JPG Quality; 90 keeps photos looking like the originals.
- Click Convert. Large batches can take a little longer outside Safari.
- Download the JPG files individually or all together as a ZIP.
What HEIC is and why it causes trouble
HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) is the format Apple devices use for photos since iOS 11. It stores images at roughly half the size of a comparable JPEG, which saves space on your phone. The catch is compatibility: Windows needs extra extensions to open it, and many websites, online forms and Android apps do not accept it at all.
If you want your iPhone to shoot JPG in future, go to Settings › Camera › Formats and choose Most Compatible.
How the conversion works here
Safari decodes HEIC natively, so conversion there is fast. In Chrome, Edge and Firefox the tool uses a built-in decoder that runs inside the page; it is slower for big batches but still completely local. A few uncommon HEIF variants, such as some high-bit-depth HDR images, may not decode; the tool tells you which files failed so you can try them in Safari. Live Photos convert as their still image.
Metadata and privacy
Your photos never leave your device. The JPG is written from the decoded pixels, so EXIF information such as the camera model, date taken and GPS location is not copied. That is helpful when sharing pictures publicly; keep your original HEIC files if you rely on that information for sorting.
Frequently asked questions
Why can't I open HEIC files on Windows?
Windows needs the HEIF and HEVC extensions from the Microsoft Store to open HEIC. Converting to JPG avoids the problem entirely.
Does converting reduce quality?
JPG is lossy, but at quality 90 the result is visually very close to the original photo.
Some photos failed to convert. Why?
A small number of HEIF variants are not supported by the in-browser decoder. Opening the tool in Safari, which decodes HEIC natively, often helps.
Are my photos uploaded?
No. Conversion happens in your browser, so your photos stay on your device.
How many photos can I convert at once?
Up to 30 per batch. For more, simply run another batch.
