How to split a PDF
- Select the PDF you want to split or drop it onto the page.
- Choose how to split it: by page ranges, into chunks of a fixed number of pages, or into single pages.
- If you split by ranges, type them in, for example 1-3, 4-10, 11-.
- Click the split button and download the files individually or all together as a ZIP.
Three ways to split
- By page ranges – each range becomes its own PDF. Ideal for separating chapters, or splitting a scanned batch of documents into individual letters.
- Every N pages – cuts the document into equal parts, for example a 60-page scan of two-page forms into 30 separate forms.
- Single pages – every page becomes its own PDF, useful for invoices or certificates printed together.
Writing page ranges
Use commas to separate ranges and a hyphen for a span of pages. 1-3 means pages one to three, 7 is a single page, and 12- means from page 12 to the end. Page numbers refer to the position in the file, which can differ from the numbers printed on the pages if the document has unnumbered front matter.
The output files are named after the original with the page range added, so a split report stays easy to identify. When you split into many parts, the ZIP download saves you from clicking through dozens of individual files.
Split or extract?
Splitting produces several files that together cover the document. If you only want one new PDF containing a few selected pages, Extract PDF Pages is quicker, and Delete PDF Pages removes pages you don't need. Splitting does not change page content or quality, and it runs in your browser without uploading the document.
Frequently asked questions
What does "12-" mean in a page range?
It means from page 12 to the last page of the document.
How do I get every page as a separate file?
Choose the single-page option. Each page is saved as its own PDF, and you can download them together as a ZIP.
Does splitting affect quality?
No. Pages are copied as they are, without re-compressing text or images.
Can I split a password-protected PDF?
Yes, after entering the correct password when prompted. The resulting files are not password protected.
Is the PDF uploaded?
No. It is split in your browser and the files never leave your device.
