Cookie Policy
Last updated: 2026-11-07
This page explains the cookies and similar browser storage used by PDF-Files.com. We keep this to a minimum: the site itself sets no tracking cookies. For visitor statistics we use Cloudflare Web Analytics, which works without cookies or other browser storage.
What we store and why
| Name | Type | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
consent.v1 | localStorage | Remembers whether you accepted or rejected personalised advertising, so the banner doesn't reappear on every page. Only set if a consent banner is shown. | Until you clear it or change your choice |
freepdf-local | IndexedDB | Temporary, on-device storage for editor autosaves and for files you drop on the homepage before choosing a tool. Never sent to us. | Cleared when you finish, when a tool picks up a handed-off file, or automatically after about a day |
| Cloudflare Web Analytics | Script only – no cookies or browser storage | Counts page views and measures page-load speed in aggregate (page address, referring site, country, browser and device type). Does not identify you or track you across websites. | Nothing is stored on your device |
Google AdSense cookies (for example __gads, __gpi, IDE) | Third-party cookies and identifiers | Set by Google only when advertising is enabled on this site: to serve and measure ads, limit repetition and prevent fraud. Used for personalised ads only with your consent where required. | Set by Google; see Google's policies |
Storage used for essential functions (the consent preference and on-device tool data) is necessary for features you request and does not track you across websites.
Advertising cookies
If ads are enabled and consent is required in your region, you'll see a banner when you first visit. Choosing Accept allows Google to use cookies for personalised advertising. Choosing Reject non-essential means Google is asked to show only non-personalised ads. Google explains how it uses cookies at policies.google.com/technologies/cookies, and you can control ad personalisation at Google Ad Settings.
Changing your choice
Use the Cookie settings button in the footer of any page. It clears your saved choice and shows the consent banner again so you can choose differently.
Clearing stored data
You can remove everything this site has stored by clearing site data in your browser:
- Chrome / Edge: click the icon to the left of the address bar, open site settings, and choose to delete data.
- Firefox: click the padlock icon, then "Clear cookies and site data".
- Safari: Settings → Privacy → Manage Website Data, then remove this site.
Private or incognito windows discard all of this automatically when closed.
