How to convert TIFF to PNG

  1. Add your TIFF files with Select files or drag and drop.
  2. Check the file list; large multi-page TIFFs may take a moment to read.
  3. Click Convert to save every page as a lossless PNG.
  4. Download the PNG files, bundled as a ZIP for multi-page documents.

PNG, the practical replacement for TIFF

Both TIFF and PNG can store images without loss, but PNG opens in every browser, word processor and website builder. It keeps scanned text, signatures, technical drawings and line art perfectly sharp, which JPG would soften, and it supports transparency.

PNG also suits long-term storage of documents you may need to reprint: no detail is lost, and it is an open standard (ISO/IEC 15948) that will remain readable for many years.

TIFF to PNG keeps scans pixel-perfect because PNG, like TIFF, uses lossless compression.

Multi-page files

When a TIFF contains several pages, each page is saved as a separate PNG, numbered in the original order and delivered as a ZIP. To turn the pages back into a single document, use PNG to PDF. Large documents may take a few seconds per page because each page is decoded in memory.

File size expectations

Black-and-white and grayscale documents usually produce compact PNGs. Colour photographs, on the other hand, can be larger as PNG than as a compressed TIFF or a JPG, because lossless compression cannot discard detail. If you only need a viewable copy of photos, TIFF to JPG gives much smaller files.

Note that the PNG is written from the image pixels, so embedded TIFF tags such as scanner settings are not copied.

Frequently asked questions

Is the conversion lossless?

Yes. Every pixel of each page is stored exactly in the PNG.

Does it keep the DPI and other TIFF tags?

No. The PNG is created from the pixels, so metadata such as resolution tags and scanner information is not carried over.

What if my TIFF won't open?

Some specialised TIFFs, such as high-bit-depth or layered professional files, are not supported. The tool shows an error instead of writing a broken image.

Are my scans private?

Yes. Files are processed in your browser and never uploaded.
