How to merge PDF files
- Click Select files or drop two or more PDFs onto the page.
- Drag the files into the order you want, or use the up and down arrows. Add more files at any time with Add more files.
- Keep Add a bookmark for each file switched on if you want readers to jump between the original documents, and optionally type a name for the result.
- Click Merge PDF and download the combined file.
Get the order right before you merge
Files are combined from top to bottom exactly as they appear in the list. A quick way to organise a stack of scans or chapters is to name them with leading numbers (01-cover, 02-introduction) before adding them. If you need to move individual pages rather than whole files, merge first and then rearrange pages in Organize PDF.
Bookmarks for each original file
With bookmarks switched on, the merged PDF gets a navigation entry named after each source file, pointing to its first page. Most PDF readers show these in a sidebar, which makes a large bundle, such as an application pack, a set of invoices or a collection of course notes, much easier to navigate. Bookmarks that existed inside the original files are not carried over.
What is preserved
Pages are copied as they are: text stays selectable and searchable, images keep their quality, and each page keeps its original size and orientation, so you can mix A4 and Letter or portrait and landscape pages. Interactive form fields may not remain fillable after merging, so complete forms first or flatten them.
Password-protected PDFs can be merged after you enter their password. The merged file has no password; add one afterwards with Protect PDF if needed. Merging runs in your browser and no file is uploaded.
Frequently asked questions
How many PDFs can I merge at once?
Up to 30 files per batch, each up to 200 MB, with a combined limit of 500 MB. Very large batches depend on your device's memory.
Can I merge password-protected PDFs?
Yes, if you know their passwords. You will be asked for each one, and it is used only in your browser to open the file.
Will merging reduce quality?
No. Pages are copied without re-compressing images or converting text, so quality is unchanged.
Can I merge PDFs with different page sizes?
Yes. Each page keeps its own size and orientation in the merged document.
Are my files uploaded?
No. Merging happens entirely in your browser and the files never leave your device.
