How to crop a PDF
- Select your PDF or drop it onto the page.
- Drag the crop box on the page preview to frame the area you want to keep.
- Choose whether to apply the crop to all pages or only to selected pages.
- Apply the crop and download the PDF.
Good reasons to crop
- Removing wide white margins so pages are easier to read on a phone or e-reader.
- Cutting a scanned receipt or ID card down from a full A4 scan.
- Isolating a chart or figure to share on its own.
- Making slides or pages a consistent size before merging.
Drawing the crop box on a live preview means you can see exactly what will remain, instead of guessing margin values in millimetres.
Cropping hides content, it doesn't delete it
A PDF crop sets the visible area of the page. Everything outside the crop box is hidden in readers and when printing, but it is still stored in the file and could be recovered by someone who removes the crop with editing software. That makes cropping great for presentation, but not a safe way to remove confidential information. To get rid of sensitive pages entirely, use Delete PDF Pages or extract only what you want to share.
Quality and privacy
Cropping does not re-render the page, so text stays selectable and images keep their resolution. The file size stays about the same because the hidden content remains. Crop images rather than documents with Crop Image. The PDF is processed in your browser and never uploaded.
Frequently asked questions
Is cropped content removed from the file?
No. It is hidden outside the crop box but still exists in the PDF. Do not rely on cropping to remove confidential content.
Can I crop each page differently?
You can apply a crop to selected pages, so different groups of pages can be cropped in separate passes.
Does cropping make the PDF smaller?
Usually not, because the hidden content stays in the file. Use Compress PDF to reduce size.
Does cropping lower quality?
No. Pages are not re-rendered, so text and images are unchanged.
Is my file uploaded?
No. Cropping happens entirely in your browser.
