How to adjust brightness, contrast and saturation

  1. Upload your photo.
  2. Move the Brightness, Contrast and Saturation sliders while watching the live preview.
  3. Compare with the original and reset any slider if you overdo it.
  4. Apply the changes and download your image.

What each slider does

  • Brightness makes every tone lighter or darker, ideal for underexposed indoor shots.
  • Contrast widens or narrows the gap between dark and light areas; more contrast adds punch, less gives a soft, faded look.
  • Saturation controls colour intensity. Raising it makes colours more vivid; lowering it all the way produces a grayscale image.

A simple order that works

Set brightness first so the subject is well exposed, then adjust contrast, and finish with saturation. Keep an eye on bright areas such as skies and skin highlights: if they turn pure white, back off a little. Skin tones are the first thing to look unnatural when saturation is pushed too far. Small adjustments are often enough; large moves are rarely needed for a photo that was reasonably exposed. Comparing against the original every few changes helps you avoid drifting too far.

What adjustments can't fix

Details lost in completely blown-out highlights or pitch-black shadows cannot be recovered from a JPG, and adjustments won't remove blur or noise. For softness, try Sharpen Image; for a classic black and white look, use Grayscale Image; and for cropping and filters in one place, use the Image Editor. Frequently asked questions

Can I undo my adjustments?

Yes. Reset the sliders at any time before downloading; your original file is never changed.

How do I make a photo black and white?

Drag saturation to its minimum, or use the dedicated Grayscale Image tool.

Will adjusting reduce image quality?

Moderate adjustments look natural. Extreme settings can cause banding or clipped highlights.

Is my image uploaded?

No. All adjustments run in your browser.
