How to use the image compressor

  1. Add your JPG, PNG or WebP images; up to 30 files per batch.
  2. Choose a Quality level, or switch to a target size if you need files under a specific limit.
  3. Click Compress and review the savings shown for each image.
  4. Use the before/after comparison to check quality, then download the files or a ZIP.

How the compressor reduces size

Each format is handled with the technique that suits it. JPG and WebP images are re-encoded at the quality you choose, which removes detail your eye is unlikely to miss. PNG images are reduced to an optimised colour palette through colour quantization, the same idea popular PNG optimisers use; it is lossy but usually invisible on screenshots and graphics, and the tool falls back to lossless saving when quantization would not help. Metadata such as camera details and GPS location is dropped, which saves space and protects your privacy.

This image compressor handles up to 30 photos in one batch, which is ideal before uploading them to a website or sending them by email.

Quality or target size

A quality setting is the simplest approach when you just want lighter images. If a website or form imposes a hard limit, the target-size mode looks for the highest quality that fits. For a single image that must land under a precise limit such as 20 KB or 50 KB, the dedicated Compress Image to KB tool gives finer control.

Check before you download

Drag the comparison slider and zoom into text, faces and smooth gradients such as skies, where compression artefacts appear first. Keep your originals: every lossy save discards a little more information, so always compress from the best copy you have. If you also need smaller dimensions, combine this tool with Resize Image.

Frequently asked questions

How much smaller will my images get?

Phone photos often shrink by 50–80% at quality 75–85. Images that are already optimised may only shrink a little.

Are my images uploaded to a server?

No. Compression runs entirely in your browser, so your photos stay on your device.

Does compression change the image dimensions?

Not in quality mode. Target-size mode may reduce dimensions only when lower quality alone cannot reach the target.

Why did one file barely change?

It was probably already well compressed. Photos saved as PNG shrink far more if you convert them to JPG or WebP.

How many images can I compress at once?

Up to 30 images per batch, each up to 200 MB.
