How to make a passport photo

  1. Upload a well-lit, front-facing photo taken against a plain, light background.
  2. Choose a size preset such as US 2 × 2 in or 35 × 45 mm, or enter a custom size.
  3. Position and zoom the photo so your head fits the size required by the guidelines.
  4. Download a single photo for online applications, or a 4 × 6 in or A4 print sheet.

Built-in sizes

  • 2 × 2 in (51 × 51 mm): United States passports and visas, and some other applications.
  • 35 × 45 mm: the United Kingdom, Schengen countries, Japan and many Indian applications.
  • 50 × 70 mm: Canadian passports.
  • 33 × 48 mm: Chinese visas.
  • Custom: any width and height in millimetres or inches.

Photos are produced at 300 DPI, so a 2 × 2 inch photo is 600 × 600 pixels and a 35 × 45 mm photo is about 413 × 531 pixels.

This passport photo maker also creates print sheets, so you can print several passport photos on one 4×6 in or A4 page.

Always check the official requirements

Authorities specify more than the photo size: head height, background colour, lighting, expression, glasses, head coverings and how recent the photo must be, as well as separate rules for digital uploads. These rules change, so read the current guidance on the official passport or visa website before you print or submit. This tool helps you size and lay out the photo, but it cannot guarantee acceptance.

Printing your sheet

Print the sheet at 100% or actual size, never with fit to page, ideally on photo paper, and trim the photos carefully. To fix a busy background first, use Change Image Background Color. For online forms with a file size limit, finish with Compress Image to KB. Your photo is processed in your browser and never uploaded.

Frequently asked questions

Will my photo be accepted?

We can't guarantee it. Acceptance depends on the issuing authority's rules, so check its current requirements carefully.

Which size is used for Indian passports?

Indian passport applications commonly specify 35 × 45 mm, while visa and OCI applications often use 2 × 2 inches. Confirm on the official Passport Seva or visa portal, as rules are updated.

How do I print the photos at the right size?

Download the 4 × 6 in or A4 sheet and print it at 100% scale (actual size) without fit-to-page scaling.

What background should my photo have?

Usually plain white or off-white without shadows, but check your country's rules.

Is my photo uploaded?

No. Everything happens on your device.
